Is it an oxymoron when you are brewing a light ale,  (color, ABV) while drinking Dogfish Head Raison D’Etre (8%), and my own All Amarillo IPA (7.4%)?????????????????????

Sipping beer and balancing life

Author: Jason  //  Category: Brew Time

So, for valentines day my wife brought me to my favorite beer store and said go inside and get yourself a mixer-sixer.  Being a beer lover, (my wife says:  ”lover=snob”), I couldn’t wait to crack one of these new to me beers.  But, alas, someone had to give my 3 year old a tub, while my wife made dinner.

So I cracked my Victory Hop Devil IPA, and put my son in the tub.  So while my son was in the tub, I could finally relax and enjoy my Hop Devil.   Now my bathroom is pretty small, and the toilet sits elevated on a platform.  So try to picture this: I am sitting on the step up to the toilet, reading the latest issue of Yankee Brewing, and sipping my beer, which was sitting on my makeshift bar: the toilet seat.

Best Attenuation Ever!

Ok.  So I went through a phase where I could afford liquid yeast.  I made all the provisions to collect the spent yeast and refrigerate until next brew etc. etc..  Then the economy tanked, and tanked bad.  I lost hours at work which equated a 28% pay decrease.  So, brewing came to a halt, and so did liquid yeast.  I started using dry yeast, as much of the posts I have read, said there was no problem with dry.  So I decided to start experimenting with dry yeast.

I just brewed an Amarillo IPA (2 weeks ago) and used Safele 05, as a substitute for my liquid 1056.  Original gravity = 1.063, Final gravity 1.006!!!  The best I have ever had!!!!!  I kegged this IPA today, it may be a little young but it tastes great, and is the result of this drunk blog post!!!

First All Grain

Author: Hank  //  Category: Brew Time

Well last night I took the plunge. I completed my very first all grain batch. I had a yeast starter that wasn’t ready for sometime, that had to be used on that day. Therefor I started at 5pm and didn’t get done until 11:30pm. It was a long night but, I feel that it went well. The O.G. was much better then I expected. When I checked on the fermenter this morning, it already started. This what I brewed, Cream Ale. This time next week I will update the F.G. and get ready for kegging.

**UPDATE**

Kegged it yesterday and got a F.G. 1.006, can’t wait to start on it.
